Born in Ware Shoals, SC as the only child of Lawton and Frances Murdock, he graduated from Ware Shoals HS and went on to serve his country in the US Navy.
After completion of his military service, he began a career in sales across several industries. His charming manner, quick wit, and contagious laugh made him a natural salesman and he enjoyed success at all his stops including owning and operating a successful building supply business for many years.
Known to his friends as “Curly”, he loved dove hunts, fishing in Santee and on the Gulf Stream in the “Tin Man”, playing cards, watching football, and a good home-cooked meal. He was a great storyteller and had a joke for every occasion. When he took his reserved seat at his favorite watering hole, a crowd always gathered to hear him tell his tales. “Curly” was not an avid reader, but he always had a few books around and had a keen interest in statistics and probabilities.
He loved his many friends, but most of all he loved his family. He doted on his dear wife, Judy, and was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His smile was never as bright as it was when he was surrounded by his family.
Jerry was predeceased by Judy and is survived by his son, Law Murdock (Mary Dawn); daughter, Zan Eaddy (Paul); stepdaughters, JoJo Grant (Mike), Lisa Harrington (Clint), and Beth Cunningham; grandchildren, Anna, Mills, Watts, DuPre, Sarah Harper and Lawton; step grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Kristen, Chloe`, Hunter, and Lily; great grandson, Henry; and step great grandchildren, Claire, Kyra, Ava, Kali, and Camille.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10:00 am at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. A graveside service and burial will take place at 12:00 pm at Woodridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
