LEXINGTON - Franklin Delano Roosevelt McClure, “Danny”, died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Agape Hospice House in Lexington, SC. He was a native of Waynesville, NC, where he graduated from Waynesville Township High School. He served for two years in the US Army, primarily in the Signal Corp. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1960. He was the son of the late Mildred Seay McClure of Waynesville and Asheville, NC.
Mr. McClure started working at the radio station, WHCC, in Waynesville, NC, while still in high school. He was eventually associated with other radio stations in North Carolina and in Aiken, North Augusta, Johnston, Newberry, and Pickens, SC. He was instrumental in the establishment of new radio stations in Johnston, Newberry, and Pickens, SC and in Burnsville, NC. He served for two years as president of the SC Associated Press Association.
Mr. McClure joined the SC Department of Vocational Rehabilitation’s Disability Division in 1973, where he worked as a disability examiner until his retirement in 1996. He returned to this work on a part-time basis until 2014. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC. After moving to West Columbia in 1980, Mr. McClure worked for a number of years as a volunteer baseball and football coach with youth leagues in the Cayce/West Columbia area. He served his community in a similar capacity for many years while living in the Pickens and Easley areas of Pickens County.
Mr. McClure is survived by his wife, Barbara Riddle McClure, of the home in Lexington, SC, one daughter, Cynthia McClure Ellenburg (Roger) of Pickens, SC; Stephen Craig McClure (Dottie), Jeffrey Davis McClure (Crystal) of Easley, SC, Joshua Patrick McClure (Christina) of Laurel, Maryland, three step-sons, Barry F. Shealy (Debbie), Donald P. Shealy (Debra) and Chris “Bo” Shealy (Miranda), all of Lexington County, fourteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by one son, Sean Michael McClure.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
