She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Gertrude (Kelly) Spigner. She is survived by her son, Randy Wohnig (Hope); her sister, Libby (Spigner) Jumper (Timothy); her brother, Marty Spigner and two grandsons, Eric Wohnig (Grace) and Justin Wohnig.
Denise was born at Columbia Hospital to Martin and Gertrude Spigner. She grew up in South Congaree and graduated from Airport High School. Denise spent several years in (West) Germany and worked as a civilian for the U.S. Army. She also visited Austria, France, and Bavaria.
After returning to the USA, she worked as a welder, bar owner, upholsterer, dispatcher, and set up mobile homes. She also competed as a barrel racer with her Appaloosa, “BayBee” in horse shows all over SC.
Denise was a breast cancer and heart attack survivor and, after beating cancer, she bought a motorcycle and loved participating in charity rides. She lived life by her own rules and always had her own unique style - from tie-dyed shirts to mix matching brightly colored shoes.
Denise always wore a smile and loved her life and her family dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Rd., West Columbia, SC 29170 on Tuesday, March 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
