John Russell Skadan

Born June 26, 1926 in Lindsay, CA, John passed peacefully at the age of 88 on Sept 28 in Visalia. John was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Reesa B. Skadan and step son Peter. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Skadan-Smith (Don), son Russell Skadan (Suzanne), step daughter, Melanie Raney, daughter-in-law Denise Carret, grandchildren Jeremy (Heather) and Bergen Smith, Keith, Gary and Meg Skadan and 6 great-grandchildren.

Raised in Lindsay, John was the only child of Frank R and Lorna M Skadan. During high school, John excelled on the football field as well as acting in local productions. Immediately upon graduation, John enlisted in the Army where he served as a paratrooper with the 82 Airborne. Post WWII, John attended Washington State College to play football. He returned home to begin his 41 year career with So CA Edison Company as a Special Agent. While raising his family he returned to college to complete his AA degree at College of the Sequoias.

Known for his friendly demeanor and quick wit, John was a generous man who willing extended help and support to friends and family. In addition to his family and faith, John’s other passion in life was golf which he played as often as possible. John was also an active member of Visalia First Presbyterian Church where he served as chair of the Board of Trustees and as an Elder.

John’s family would like to thank his family of caregivers at Quail Oaks Memory Care Residence and the Kaweah Delta Home Hospice for their loving and compassionate care during John’s final journey in this life.

Private family burial will be 10 AM, 10/6/14 at Visalia Cemetery followed by an 11 AM public Celebration of Life at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W Goshen Ave, Visalia.
