Dorothy “Bobbie” Elizabeth Macklin, age 86, died October 2, in Visalia. Born on July 1, 1924 in Bakersfield, California, Bobbie grew up in Lost Hills, California, surrounded by her large family, including her six sisters. She attended Wasco public schools. During WWII, Bobbie worked for Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles as a riveter and assembler. In 1947, Bobbie married her beloved husband of 60 years, Hugh ”Hoot” Macklin. Their life together was filled with family, friends and adventures. Bobbie was an active participant in life. She was an accomplished golfer and painter, and she loved playing the piano. She loved the ocean and painted many ocean scenes. She enjoyed being with friends and always seemed to bring laughter to gatherings.
Bobbie is survived by her two children. Kenneth Macklin and his wife Kathleen live in Visalia, and Carrie Macklin Ritz and her husband Peter live in Wisconsin. She was the proud grandmother of Anna Macklin Ritz, Heath Macklin, Chad Macklin and Libby Macklin Ritz, cheering their victories and comforting away their troubles.
Two of the most important people in her life preceded her in death: her husband, Hoot Macklin (2007) and her precious first grandson, Seth Macklin (1983).
Although Alzheimer’s disease stole many of her wonderful memories, it did not take away her ability to laugh. Bobbie had a joyful life!
In remembrance of Bobbie, please make someone smile today.
A memorial service will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel on Friday October 8th at 11AM.
Arrangements under the direction of Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia, CA.
