

Clarence Edward Mayfield, 82, of Visalia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Kaweah Health Hospital in Visalia, CA. He was born on April 9, 1943, in Red Oak, Oklahoma. In 1960, at the age of 17, he married his high school sweetheart Ruby Raper and enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving in the US Navy he was a machinist first class abroad two ships during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Pritchett (DD-561) and re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Oriskany (CVA-34). He was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy in 1972. He and his wife Ruby settled down in Ivanhoe, CA. There he worked as a courier, and he was also an armed security guard/patrolman for AAA Security for several years. A little while after his wife passed in 1997, he moved to Visalia with one of his sisters-in-law and her family until his passing. He played Santa Claus for special needs kids of all ages for over 30 years, was a member of the Maple Melody Guild, and the local VFW. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Mayfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Mayfield, his parents: Luther and Edith Mayfield; brothers: Horace, Jimmie, D.C & Carl Mayfield; sisters: Frieda Rockwell, Frances Smith & Yvonne Lyden. Memorial Services will be held at 11am, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Millers Memorial Chapel in Visalia, CA followed by Celebration of Life at the Tulare Veterans Memorial Building immediately following the service.
