Obituary of William Justin Olsen
William Justin Olsen passed away on February 16, 2017. He was born on August 2, 1924 in Norfolk, VA to the late Hamilton Justin Olsen and Dorothy Belle Stanley Olsen. Also preceding him in death was his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Eleanore Lake Olsen. He was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1942, and he attended the Norfolk division of the College of William & Mary. He retired from the U.S. Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, VA as Supervisor of the Instrument Calibration Lab after 39 years of dedicated service. He was a 70-year member and Past Master of the Elizabeth Masonic Lodge No. 34, a member of the Khedive Shrine Center, and Past Director of the Hillbillie Unit. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a good friend, a gentle man, and a gentleman. Surviving him are his children, Richard Olsen and his wife, Bonnie, and Linda Olsen Spruill and her husband, Steve; granddaughters, Emily Spruill Labows and her husband, Greg, and Amanda Spruill Moorman and her husband, Cliff; step-grandson, Richard Day and his wife, Tammie; great-granddaughters, Caroline Labows, Juliana Moorman, and Elizabeth June Moorman; nieces, Janet Begley and Karen Twiddy Moore; and nephew, Bruce Twiddy. His family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Westminster Canterbury for their dedicated and loving care of “Pop”. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Westminster Canterbury chapel, 3100 Shore Drive. The graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the “Khedive Transportation Fund” in support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320; to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451; or to a charity of your choice.
