Rudolph J. Roy, Jr. (Rudy), LCDR USN (retired), passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, after a long illness. He joins his parents, Rudolph and Loretta Roy and his brother, Frank, in God’s eternal embrace. Rudy was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on February 7, 1941. Rudy was a proud graduate of Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi in Oxford. After graduation Rudy began a twenty-year career in the United States Navy that included a tour of duty in Vietnam and time as a Naval Science instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He would later serve as a founding member of the Virginia Beach Stamp Club and was actively involved for many years in both the Virginia Beach and Norfolk Stamp Clubs. As a devout Catholic, Rudy was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
Joyful memories of life with Rudy will live on in the hearts of his wife, Charlotte, and his six children and six grandchildren: the eldest son Rudy with his wife Raquel and their son Diego; daughter Lori with her husband Bill Sheedy and their children Patrick, Meghan, and Anwen; daughter Leslie; son Jerry; son Tim with his wife Karen and their children JD and Josie; and youngest daughter Tina. May Rudy and all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A Mass in honor of Rudy’s life will be held Thursday, March 17, at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd. Suffolk, VA 23434.
