Robert “Bob” Hagerty died at home February 21 at age 89. Bob was born on December 30, 1932, in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Grace Atkinson Hagerty, his children, Robert Hagerty Jr. (Kim), Robin Wiseman (Tom), Lisa Twohey (Mike), Holly Meyerhoffer (Fred), his stepchildren Ruth Yuhasz (Nick), John Lownsbury (Patti), Suzanne Lownsbury, his eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hedwig Hagerty, his brother William A. Hagerty and sister Ruth Ingebretsen.
Bob attended the University of Delaware, on a football scholarship, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served 4 years as an officer in the U.S. Army, which took him to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Over the years he worked for several national companies in real estate development. In 1973, he moved his family to Louisville, Kentucky with Kentucky Fried Chicken. He later retired from Blockbuster Video, which brought him to Virginia Beach. He loved his family, lifelong friends, sports, playing games, especially Bridge, and his country. Even though his children lived in different states, he rarely missed a graduation, holiday, wedding, or special event. He was the life of the party, a gracious host to many in his Virginia Beach home and will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
