Richard Earl Smith, 60, of Chesapeake, passed away into the loving arms of his Savior on June 7, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sherri Smith and his siblings, Donald Smith and Linda Leigh and was a loving father to his children, Heather and Richard Febus, Jason and Hannah Smith, and Ethan Smith. He was known as “Pops” to three grandchildren, Easton and Lincoln Febus, and Colton Smith.
Richard was the faithful pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, for 24 years. He also served as a Police Chaplain in the City of Chesapeake for the past five years. He was a dedicated servant to God and to his church family, preaching God’s Word and always taking a strong stance on the Bible every time he stood behind the pulpit.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, and Pops. He set a Godly example for his family and those around him of how to live a life fully for Christ. After God and family, he loved classic cars, vacationing in Florida, and sitting on his back porch. He took every opportunity to show the love of Christ to others in his daily walk and won countless souls towards the kingdom of Heaven in which he is worshipping Jesus right now.
Richard will be missed by all who knew him, but will be reunited in glory with other believers!
