Paul Lawrence Kemp

Paul Lawrence Kemp, 65, passed away on May 26, 2017. He was born in Jackson, MS. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Gibson. Paul was a 24-year veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Persian Gulf War. He retired as an E7, after which he began his second career as a ship store procurement specialist with the NEX Command at the Little Creek Naval Base. In 2005 he graduated from Saint Leo University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. Surviving him are his children: Denise Kemp of Kentwood, LA, Tanoa Kemp (Autumn) of Tampa, FL, and Eric Kemp of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Alexis Kemp, Quadajia Kemp, Jayda Kemp, and Isaiah Kemp; great-grandchildren: Ava Robinson and Tahari Holmes; brothers: Herman Tyler and Willi Allen of Lake Charles, LA; and sisters: Carolyn Glass of Lake Charles, LA and Margaret Collins of Baskin, LA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery.
