Naomi, or ‘Nini’, as she was affectionately called was educated in the public schools of Norfolk, graduating from Booker T. Washington in 1949. She continued her education at Norfolk Division of Virginia State College and Virginia State College where she earned a BS degree in elementary education. Nini also earned a masters degree from City College of New York in early childhood education. Her love for children inspired her to teach for many years.
Before moving to New York to live, Naomi married Clarence E. Wilson. To this union, four children were born…two boys and two girls. Life was pretty good in the big city, but retirement was the time for a change and a little less hustle and bustle. It was time to go back home to Virginia to build their dream house where they would spend several years surrounded by family and friends. Even as her health began to decline, Naomi loved being at home in Virginia.
Naomi leaves to carry on her legacy: her husband of 60 years, Clarence E. Wilson, Sr.; two sons, Clarence, E. Wilson, Jr. (Sieglinde) and Kenneth Wilson (Venitia); two daughters, Karen Mendez and Sharon Wilson, RN; eight grandchildren; Jamar Wilson, Kenneth Wilson, Jr., Naomi A. Wilson, Ashley and Cleveland Mendez (twins), Michael Cambridge, Clarence Wilson, III, and Alexander Wilson; one sister, Ruth Capps Harris; two brothers-in-law, Robert B. Wilson, Sr. (Lyvonne), and Maurice E. Wilson, Sr.; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Naomi will be greatly missed, but we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
