Nannie Elizabeth Peterson

Nannie worked for the Virginian-Pilot for many years. Nannie was a loving, caring & nurturing mother, grandmother, great grandmother & great-great grandmother. Nannie was known by most as “Granny”. She loved spending her time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren. She loved to travel to the holler in West Virginia and explore her childhood area. Nannie found joy in walking the beach for sea glass with her daughter. Everyone knew her for her love of bingo.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Icie Leo Honaker and William Butler; her loving husband, Ernest E. Peterson; her daughter, Deborah D. Willoughby; five brothers, Oscar, Howard, Harold, Leister, Paul; as well as three sisters, Nelma, Nellie, Norma and their spouses.

Nannie is survived by five children, Charlotte Cole (Allen Cole), Vickie Jo Roche, Michael Peterson (Linda Peterson), René Midgett (Ronnie Midgett), and Mark Peterson (Gale Clark); Eighteen Grandchildren, Daniel, Amber, Jeremiah, Kenny, Kendra, Tommy, Christopher, Samuel, Billy, Bryan, David, Ron, Traci, Mark, Angel, Chris, John and predeceased by Stephen E. Lewis; Twenty-Three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ashley, Marissa, Journey, Skye, Ashley, Kenneth, Keonna, Kavon, Kenzie, Tiffany, Breena, Gavin, Kaleb, Tyler, Maddy, Ashlyn, Tiana, Drayden, Jayden, Landen, Rebecca, and Kadden; as well as five great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A Celebration of Life will occur Monday, December 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM, in the funeral home's chapel. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
