Kathy Jan Vines

Kathy Jan Honyoust Vines passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024 with her loving husband by her side. She was born on March 12, 1953 to the (late) William R. Honyoust, Sr. and Dorothy Ann (Kennedy) Honyoust in Syracuse, New York. Kathy worked as a gifted private home health care aide for many years but her job for the past 23 years was being a homemaker and Navy wife (the hardest job in the Navy).

Born in Syracuse New York, her and her family moved around until finally settling in Michigan where Kathy ventured out on her own. She met and married the late Charles Rogers with whom she had her 2 daughters, the late Sandi Marie Rogers (Donecker) and Cindy Lee Rogers. She spent many years in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She then moved closer to family in Illinois until the late 90s, being newly single, she chose to join her daughters in San Diego.

It was one summer night in July of 1999 where Kathy was sitting at a table in the Ye Olde Plank Inn with friends that, upon hearing Sandi singing along to Alanis Morisette that Gary Vines, looked around the corner to see Kathy and when their eyes met, a connection was made that never broke. They fast became friends, then best friends then family on short order. They married on April 4th of 2001 and Gary left for deployment in July 2001. While he was gone, Kathy bought and decorated their first home in Santee, CA, took care of the home front and did so for the remainder of his 28-year career, one which he has frequently mentioned would not have been as long or as successful without her. After the passing of her daughter and Son in law in 2014, the quickly stepped back into the mother role she knew so well and adopted and raised her Grandson Jesiah Raine Donecker Vines. She was a prayer warrior, who was a kind and fiercely loving soul that once you were in her heart, you never left.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Gary M. Vines; her daughter, Cindy Lee Roger; her grandson, and adopted son, Jesiah Raine Donecker Vines all from Virginia Beach, VA. She is also survived by her brothers, Michael and Marion Honyoust of Charlotte NC, and their children Jennifer and her children, Derek Honyoust and his wife and his children; William Raymond Honyoust Jr. of Urbana, IL;

and Judy Cross of Mattawan MI; nieces, Shannon and her husband Derek (Nofz) their daughters, Amelia and Evelyn of Kalamazoo, MI; Lauri Dilts and her daughter, Breana of Muskegon, MI; and Kim Dilts and her children, Autum and her son, Henry Lee and his twins Isabella and Storm of Sherwood, MI.

Half sister, Michelle Nickles of Warren, MI and Sharon Nickles, Debra and her wife Carol , Michael Nickles and is wife Jonie, Cabot, AR. Terrance Honyoust of California. The deceased Mitchell and Jean Honyoust of Raleigh NC.

Half Brothers, Cassie Seely of St. Joseph, IL, Kathy’s niece Ashely Seely Hess (and husband Stephen) their children Jay and Tyler of St. Joseph, IL, her nephew Lucas and his wife Kati Seeley and their sons Zac and Wes and daughter Lucy of Mahomet IL.

Also her Mother and Father-in-law, Elaine and Jimmy Jones of Texarkana, AR and Brother-in- law, Matthew Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and William Raymond Honyoust, her daughter, and son-in Law, Sandi and Duane Donecker, a daughter, Melissa Rogers and her brother-in-law, Daniel Wayne Vines Jr.
