CWO2 Joseph Timothy Salt, 90, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Joseph W. and Sarah M. Salt. Joe served his country in the U S Navy during the Korean War and Vietnam, retiring after 25 years. He served 20 years at NAS Oceana Fire Department retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. Joe was a member of the Kempsville Masonic Lodge #196 for over 59 years and a member of the Khedive Shriners Temple of Norfolk. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling with his wife Shirley, and spending time in his garden where he grew an assortment of vegetables he shared with his friends and neighbors. Joe was a Rosarian exhibiting his award winning roses at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. He was an honorable, kind man, full of integrity and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Shirley Murphy Salt; 2 daughters, Shirley Salt and Dale Koenig; 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
