Jewel Ramell Belote, 97, went to be with the Lord June 10, 2023 in a Norfolk hospital. Born in Albemarle, NC to Garf R. and Rebecca W. Russell January 3, 1926, she was the fifth of eleven children. Taking care of her family and helping her friends was her life mission. Everyone loved her and she was cherished by all.
Jewel was a member of the Outreach Class at Kempsville Baptist Church where she was a devoted member for over 60 years. Jewel was a past worthy matron of the Westminster No. 99 Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Lady Scottish Rite, and Beauceant.
Jewel is predeceased by her beloved husband Bernard B. Belote Jr, infant son Bernard B. Belote III, and daughter Jacqueline B. Godfrey.
She is survived by her daughters, Katherine B. O’Brian (William) and Deborah B. Connolly; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Jewel is also survived by three brothers, Sherl, Bob, and Ted Russell.
A Celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
