Euell Hugh (Buck, Blackie) Blackwood Jr., 80, of Virginia Beach passed away on April 19, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Durham, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Euell H. Blackwood and Elsie L. (Pickett) Blackwood.
Euell served in the Navy on numerous ships, and was in the Vietnam War. While in the Navy he also served as part of the NASA Manned Spacecraft Recovery Force, in the Atlantic. He retired after more than 24 years of service, where he received numerous awards. After leaving the Navy, Euell began working at Colonna Shipyard, where he remained for the next 14 years, before retiring. When not working he enjoyed fishing, travelling, camping and reading.
Euell is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Sonny Collins, longtime companion, Debbie Prescott, daughters Helen Marie Baker, Pamela Lee Murray, and son John Russell Blackwood as well as Debbie’s children, Arthur Dale Prescott, Sandra Kay Mulkey, Naomi Jean Newcomb, Timothy Earl Prescott, Mickey Vernon Prescott; a total of 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held, Sunday, 4/21/2013 from 6 -8 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A funeral service will be held Monday, 4/22/2013 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Chuck Moseley from Oak Grove Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia, 23502. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Phil, Chris, Timmy, Chris, Jason and Shawn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 691 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23457.
