Jo Anne (Joanie) was born in Charleston, SC and resided in Hampton Roads area for more than sixty-five years. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Fern Virginia Jones. She retired as Supervisor Manager of Parks and Recreation in Norfolk and Superintendent of Leisure Services for The City of Fredericksburg.
Her thirst for knowledge led her to achieve an Associate Degree Nursing from College of The Albemarle. She graduated Summa Cum Laude Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Administration from Saint Leo University where she went on to also accomplish her MBA.
Joanie shared her knowledge and time willingly and with love for she lived thru her relationship with God that “happy are those who delight in doing what he commands. Their children will be successful everywhere. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will never be forgotten”.
Survivors include her brother and sisters, Lorraine Wheeler, William Jones, Elizabeth Brown, and Kathleen Martin. Nieces and Nephews include Heather Andrews, Holly Barrett, Zachariah Lloyd, Ryan Jones, Alexander Martin, and Scott Martin. Grand nieces and nephews include Oliver Andrews, Tillie Andrews, Cate Martin, and Xander Martin.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 28, 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
She gave in life and would prefer to do so in death. Joanie’s wish is for any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Hope for Life Rescue in Virginia Beach or any charity of your passion in her name.
