Ellen Frances Kelly

Our Beloved Matriarch, Mother and Nanny, Ellen Frances Swede Kelly, 95, received her Angel wings January 14, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and has been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1958. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Alfred Swede, her husband, Joseph Paul Kelly, sisters Ruth Murphy and Marion Vaccarello and daughters-in-law Linda Kelly and Laura Wesp. She was a devout member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a 30-year member of the Catholic Daughters Court Stella Maris #1881. Ellen was a Charter Member and past president of the Aragona Garden Club. She was active in the Princess Anne Plaza Garden Club and a member of the Norfolk Federation of Garden Clubs. Ellen also enjoyed the time spent with her friends in the Red Hat Society. When she was younger, Ellen enjoyed relaxing at the beach while her children played. She loved gardening and arts and crafts. Time spent together with family was one of her biggest joys along with traveling with her sisters. Survivors include her four children, Theresa Arterberry (Jay), Wayne Kelly, Patrick Kelly and Denise Brown (Ken); nine grandchildren Sabrina Szeba, Crystal Kelly (Duane Worley), Wendy Arterberry, Michelle Arterberry (Chris Mueller), Robert Arterberry, Derek Arterberry (Tiera), Ashley Arterberry Clark, Chelsea Arterberry and Casey Perez (Mario). Loving sister Norma Smith, and an abundance of great and great-great grandchildren along with her many nieces and nephews, including special niece Felicia Lecce (Kim Farrier). The family will receive friends on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Friends will be received by the family for a light reception at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home.
