Mr. Barnes was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired Factory Representative for a Building Materials Company. Born in the Great Depression and raised during World War Two he volunteered for the Army in 1949 and served honorably in the Korean War were he was combat wounded. He later worked a few years at the Norfolk Ford plant before finding his true profession as a salesman for the next 35 years. His personal passions were wood working, boat modeling, fishing with family, and slot machines with his sweetheart Irene.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Irene S. Barnes; son Ronald Barnes and wife Kim and their children Zachary, William, and Robert; stepson Jacques Metivier, JR and children Melissa (husband Ryan and son Logan) and Jackie (son Michael); stepdaughter Kimberley Metivier; brother Phillip Barnes and wife Donna; sister Marilyn Giddings; sister Gerry Garrett and husband Jack. Doug was blessed with and loved by numerous nieces and nephews. His sister June Anderson and brother Jack Graves preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA. Please join the family with continued memories and refreshments at Irene's home after the service.
