Claudine Garland Whitehead

Claudine Garland Whitehead, age 97, passed away peacefully in Smithfield, VA on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Claudine was born on June 23, 1925 in Norfolk, VA to Roswell and Claudine Garland and was named for her mother. Claudine lived in many places throughout the United States as the family traveled with her father as an electrical contractor for the US Government. Claudine married Joseph Albert Whitehead on February 5, 1946, in Elizabeth City, NC. They had two children; daughter Bonnie and son Dennis. Claudine worked as the dietician for Bayside Elementary School and she was known for her cooking and baking skills.

Claudine was preceded in death by her parents, Roswell and Claudine Garland and her siblings: Virginia Moore, Ross Garland, Jack Garland, Elizabeth West, Richard Garland and Elwood Garland. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Bisgrove, her daughter Bonnie Hess and her son Dennis Whitehead. She is also survived by grandchildren Jeff Bohrer, Steven Bohrer, Vanessa Jennings and Keith Whitehead. She is also survived by numerous great and great-great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
