A native of Charleston, SC, Carlyn was born on February 4, 1930 to Rudolph C. McCants, Sr. and Lillian Hare, and grew up in Virginia. Carlyn was the wife of W. Kendall Stevenson, Jr. for 68 years and enjoyed homemaking, gardening, travel, the beach, and especially dancing. She was a 1947 graduate of Churchland High School and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for most of her adult life.
Carlyn was predeceased by her husband, her parents, both of her brothers, Rudolph C. McCants, Jr. and Donald G. McCants, and their wives, Jean and Jackie respectively. She was also predeceased by two nephews and a niece.
Survivors are her son, David K. Stevenson (Jean) of Portsmouth; granddaughter, Katina Martin (RJ); plus five step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and four step great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Carlyn to Alzheimer's Association at 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
