Carl Grier Patterson

Carl Grier Patterson passed away peacefully July 31, 2011. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Patterson and Fannie Mae Bell Patterson of Greenwood, S.C. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Joe, Adaearlene, Annie Mae, Henry Workman, Thomas Leroy, Robert Alexander, and Wayne O’Neal Patterson.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Jean Marion Pauquette of Virginia Beach, his loving sons: Wayne Andrew Patterson (Wanda Crisp Patterson) of Amelia Island, FL., and Jody Lamar Patterson (Wanda H. Patterson) of Norfolk, VA; He was the loving and devoted grandfather of Kyle Andrew Patterson of Amelia Island, FL., and Darik Joseph Patterson of Norfolk, VA. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Janie Bell King (Bob) of Montebello, CA., James Grady Patterson (Sally) of San Antonio, TX.; Marion “Bo” Symmes Patterson (Carolyn), of Greenwood, S.C.; as well as a sister-in-law Martha Jean Patterson, wife of the late Joe Patterson, along with many nieces and nephews.

Looking back on his 32 year naval career; LCDR Patterson, enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He went on to proudly serve aboard many aircraft carriers including three tours of duty on the USS Forrestal. He served our country proudly during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict, retiring in Virginia Beach in 1974.

Remaining forever in our hearts, Carl Grier Patterson will be remembered for his outgoing personality that could make everyone smile, as well as the love and devotion he showed his family and friends whom will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Princess Anne Memorial Park. Please share your love and condolences with the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
