Virginia Beach - Barbara Jean Burgess, 83, went to be with her Lord on Jan 9. 2013. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all. She retired with more than 40 years of service from Hobbs Cleaners working as a presser and learning every facet of the dry cleaning industry. She was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, TX and Martin Luther King United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, VA.
Barbara was born on October 9, 1929 the youngest daughter of Alice and Jeff Jordan, she attended and graduated High School at Dunbar High in Mineral Wells Texas where she was a member of the girls Dance club and a dance group at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells Texas along with being in the acapella choir at Dunbar high school. She moved to Chicago Illinois and worked at Sears in the clothing and fashion department, where she met and married Hosey Burgess Sr. After leaving Chicago she moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where she was employed as a silk presser, seamstress and a variety of other duties at Hobbs Cleaners until retiring and moving to Virginia Beach to live with son Hosey and daughter in-law LaRue. She maintained friendship with her best friend from childhood Lottie Ruth (sister Bunny) her friend for 83 years they were still talking the very end.
She leaves us behind to join her father, Jeff Jordan; mother, Alice "Ollie" Jordan; her six sisters, Louise, Mary, Pauline, Sadie, Alice and Blanch; and a special niece, Mary Sally Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving son Hosey Burgess and wife LaRue; brother, Donald Jordan and wife Cora; four grandsons, James, Hermanos, Carlos, and Anthony and wife Holly; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
