Rev. Leandous "Lee" Perkins

He was born on July 21, 1932 to Clyde and Viona (Smith} Perkins in Rosepine, Louisiana.

Known as “Lee” to most, served his Country in the United States Navy and was a proud Veteran who loved his Country. He completed his undergraduate studies at Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. Upon completion of His Bachelor’s Degree, He continued his education and obtained his Graduate Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Lee married Hilda Delores Lachney Perkins on February 20, 1959. He and Delores had five children.

Reverend Perkins served as a Minister for over fifty-five years. His passion for serving his Church and Family was his purpose for living. In return, all whom he touched were a huge support during his illness.

Aside from his ministry and his family, Lee had a great passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the sport immensely. He grew one of the best gardens, and loved sharing the vegetables with friends and neighbors. Lee was a friend to all and will be missed greatly.

Survivors include his wife of over fifty-eight years, Hilda Delores Lachney Perkins; children, Michael L. Perkins (Jeanie) of Sulphur, LA, Clyde D. Perkins of Vinton, LA, Sonya Perkins Turner (Gill) of Vinton, LA, Bryan K. Perkins of Beaumont, TX, and Lana Perkins Barto (Sean) of Lacombe, LA; to be included as one of his loved children is Michael J. Vincent of Beaumont, TX; grandchildren, Magen Perkins Conner (Colby) of Vinton, LA, Isaac C. Barto and Lydia A. Barto of Lacombe, LA; sister, Barbara Nelson of Winamac, IN and a host of nieces, nephews and family members whom he loved dearly.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Viona Perkins; sister, Maxine Harwell, Jewel Brents and twin sister, Addis Spikes, as well as his brothers, Lester Perkins and Jerry Perkins.

A gathering of Reverend Perkins’ family and friends will be held at First Baptist Church of Vinton, LA (1401 Center St.) on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. His funeral will be held at the church on Thursday at 2 pm. under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. The family would like to give special thanks to Monique Brown, Chris Ayo and Hospice for their gentle and kind care during his illness. Also, love and appreciation is given to Renee Anding and Shirley Burns for always being such great neighbors in times of need.
