A native of Ged, he was known as “PaPa Al” to many and lived in Vinton all of his life. A Navy veteran, he served in WWII in the South Pacific. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church of Vinton where he was a long time usher and Eucharistic Minister. Alfred was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as past Grand Knight. He retired as an electrical supervisor after working at Dupont for 36 years. He enjoyed carpentry and spending time camping and traveling but most of all he loved being with his family especially the grandkids !
He is survived by his wife Bernice Bourque Landry; children, Al Landry, Jr (San), Sharon VanMetre (Buddy) and Mark Landry (Shera); grandchildren Rachelle Landry (David Fritsche), Jody Paul Landry (Odette), Stephanie Landry, Jason VanMetre (Amanda), Julie McCardle (Tony), Josh Landry (Richelle), Jonathan Landry and Howard Matthews; great grandchildren Sofie, Toby, Alaynah, Nate, Caleb, Caden and Paxton numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Josephine Landry and his sister Eula Mae Bourque.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from St. Joseph Catholic Church of Vinton under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Father Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery – South, in Carlyss. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 – 8 pm with a 6 pm rosary and from 8 am until 10:45 on Wednesday.
