Gwen Ann Land, age 69, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2018, at her home in Victorville, California. She was born on January 15, 1949 in Riverside, California to Joe Alfaro and Beverly Pietsch. She was a truly remarkable and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
Gwen spent the early part of her life in Riverside, as well as some time in Connecticut as a young girl. She was a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Rialto and went on to seek post-secondary education, where she earned her credential. This allowed her to follow her passion of serving others, teaching intellectually disabled adults. She found great joy and value in serving others and giving a voice to those that may not have one.
Gwen married the love of her life, Jimmie Land on May 3, 1969. They settled in San Bernardino, CA, where they raised their two children; Lisa Ann Land and Eric Ray Land. Gwen spent more than 30 years in San Bernardino before moving to Victorville to be closer to her children.
Gwen was a devoted and loving mother. She was extremely proud of her family, including her two children and four grandchildren. Her favorite time of year was Christmas. She relished every opportunity to bake, cook, decorate and spend time with those closest to her. She enjoyed making sure that everyone around her felt valued, listened to, and comforted.
Gwen was always known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was loved and cherished by everyone who came into contact with her. She could brighten a room with her smile, laughter and sense of humor. It was impossible to feel sad or lonely, as long as she was around.
Gwen is survived by her beloved husband Jimmie Land, her daughter Lisa Mathews and her husband Gary Mathews, her son Eric Land and his wife Margie Land. In addition, she was the loving grandma of Catlin Land, Katrina Land, Jacob Land, and Olivia Land.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate her life at Desert View Mortuary, in Victorville, CA at 11478 Amargosa Road, 92392. Viewing will be 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a service immediately following at noon. There will be a last viewing at the completion of the service. Following the service, there will be a reception with light refreshments at the same location.
