Dennis Baker passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter at his side on October 6, 2024. He was very tired of the struggles with his health during the previous year, and went eagerly into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dennis is survived by his wife Susan, son and daughter-in-law Dennis Paul & Rachel Baker, daughter Lori Mente, and grandchildren Gabriel Ige, Jane Mente, and Joshua Mente, sister Linda McGuyer, and brother & sister-in-law, Andy & Debbie Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cal & Miki Baker, and granddaughter Grace Ige.
Dennis graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1967, where he met the love of his life, Susan Gohn. Following his time at Biola College, he joined the Air Force. He then married Susan in 1969, and they began a wonderful period in which they lived on Air Force bases in Illinois, Arizona, the Philippines, New Mexico, and Okinawa, Japan.
Dennis got his private pilot license in 1968 and in 1976, he got his commercial pilot license! He loved flying so much! He also loved being in the ocean, and was a certified master scuba diver. During the 20 years he was in Kwajalein, after work he would be either on the water in one of his fishing boats, or in the water, scuba diving, often on WWII wrecks.
Dennis retired early and came back to California to be with his mother during her last years. He became a member of High Desert Church and began serving at the Phelan campus in 2012 – then, when they moved to Hesperia in 2017, he began serving on the security team at the Hesperia campus.
Dennis Baker's life was characterized by working and playing hard. He loved all of his years on islands and all of the water sports that he enjoyed. Dennis will be remembered for his practical jokes, sarcastic comments, and great sense of humor, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26th at High Desert Church, 14545 Hook Blvd. Victorville, CA 92394. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Desert Church, in Dennis Baker's memory. Please come to the service island-style (Hawaiian shirt, t-shirt & jeans).
