He was an insurance agent in Victoria for 30 years and was one of the founding partners of Professional Insurance Agents. He attended Southwestern University until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy after Pearl Harbor and proudly served his country as a Pilot during WW II and the Korean War. He served as a Deacon for many years at Baptist Temple Church. Roger was very active in the Victoria community, he was Past President of the VISD School Board, was a Past President of the Victoria Noon Lions Club and a 50 year member of the Victoria Masonic Lodge # 40 AF AM and he enjoyed playing golf at Riverside Golf Course.
Survivors include his daughters, Ann Spahn (John) and Doris Dickson (Ron), all of Victoria; brothers, Thomas Dawson, of Victoria; George Dawson, of Abilene; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Leosha Strickland Dawson; and brother, Robert Dawson.
The family will gather for a visitation on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. A Private Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home, Rev J.V. Helms and Rev. David Hudson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Roger's memory to the Baptist Temple Church.
