Plinio H. Flores Sr.

Plinio H. Flores Sr, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Visitation will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 9AM at Colonial Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited by Deacon Larry Koether at 10:30AM, and followed by the funeral service at 11AM with Pastor Benjamin Sheeran officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

He was born March 21,1933 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to the late Candido Flores and Aida Villarreal Flores. In 1950, He won Mr. Laredo in bodybuilding. His wife, Carmen, and he were high school sweethearts and in 1950, they moved to the United States. He attended OSU and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science. He was a soil scientist with the USDA for 30 years and retired in 1985. After his retirement, he became a substitute teacher and worked in the transportation department for VISD. His passions were scientific reading and holistic medicine. He was an active member in local politics including the Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, The League of United Latin American Citizens and the American Civil Liberties Union. He loved gardening and going to the casinos in Louisiana and Las Vegas.

Plinio was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Flores; parents, Candido Flores and Aida Villarreal Flores; sisters, Graciela (Chela) Flores De Rendon, Armandina (Manina) Flores De Samano, Violeta Flores Cobb, Elvia Guillermina Flores De Gonzalez and Blanca Ethel Flores De Leon, and brother, Romeo Flores, Sr.

Plinio is survived by his daughters, Gabriela (Ernest) Cardenas and Xochitl (John) Reyes; son, Plinio “Pino” (Janie) Flores, Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, Plinio also leaves behind numerous extended family, all of whom will cherish his memory.
