Loretta Stumfoll Lawrence passed away peacefully on October 3, 2019 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Victoria, Texas. She was 96 years old and just 5 days away from celebrating her 97th birthday. Loretta was the widow of Floyd Lawrence. Loretta and Floyd were wed on October 15, 1939 and were blessed with sharing 59 years of marriage together.
Loretta was born in Chicopee, Kansas, on October 8, 1922, to Frances and Edward Stumfoll. She and Floyd moved to Victoria, Texas prior to Floyd being deployed to active military duty during World War II. It was in Victoria that she raised her four children and later worked fervently for the lunch programs of Victoria Independent School District and Catholic Schools. Everyone who had the opportunity to know Loretta knew that she was a fighter and was extremely determined. These qualities were very evident throughout her life, especially after surviving the removal of a brain tumor in 1982 and her battle with breast cancer in 2001.
Loretta actively attended Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Victory, and Holy Family Catholic Churches. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, IBEW Ladies Auxiliary, and The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved to play Bingo in town and made numerous friends while doing so. She had a very warm and welcoming spirit and always kept her home open to her family and friends for a cup of coffee and a visit.
Loretta is survived by her daughter, Janice Lawrence Wickliffe, son-in-law, Billy Wickliffe, her son, Jerry Lawrence, and daughter-in-law, Shirley Lawrence. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kara Lawrence Peddicord, Bryce Wickliffe, Carson Wickliffe and his wife, Dakota Vernon Wickliffe, Joe McCann, and Julie Quebe. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren: Jordan Peddicord, Kirby Young, Blaine Campbell, Kylee Wickliffe, Makenna Wickliffe, Bentley Wickliffe, Emma Wickliffe, Sawyer Wickliffe, Caleb McCann, Colton McCann, and Dylan McCann; great great-grandchild, Reese Young and sister-in-law, Joyce Stumfoll. She was predeceased by her son Edward Lawrence, her daughter, Barbara Quebe, and her granddaughter, Kimberly Lawrence and a brother, Bernard Edward Stumfoll.
