Leroy Spiegel, 86, of Austwell, Texas passed away on Sunday from heart failure following an extended illness. He was born on July 16, 1928 in Port Lavaca, Texas to the late Henry George Spiegel and Ruby Ethel Mayhall Spiegel. Leroy married the love of his life, Bobbie Lillian Richardson Spiegel, on July 1, 1949 in Victoria, Texas, and they resided together in Austwell since May 1972. Leroy loved fishing and building boats! He was a retired pipefitter from Alcoa in Point Comfort and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austwell, Texas.
Leroy served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he enlisted on February 1, 1946 during World War II serving in China. After being released on November 8, 1947 into the reserves, he was called back to active duty on November 28, 1950 and served during the Korean War. Leroy then returned to the reserves on December 14, 1951, where he served through September 10, 1952.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Joe McDonald of Mobile, Alabama officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. that morning at Rosewood. The body will lie in state at Rosewood from Wednesday August 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. until the Thursday morning visitation.
Leroy was preceded in death by his mother Ruby Ethel Mayhall Spiegel, his father Henry George Spiegel, his sister Nelda Ann (Spiegel) Morgenroth, his children Bobby Lee Spiegel, Darlette Jo (Spiegel) Cervenka, Jerry Wayne Spiegel, and Ronnie Lee Spiegel, and his granddaughter Cassandra Lynette Cervenka. Surviving are his wife Bobbie Lillian (Richardson) Spiegel, his sister Georgia Mae (Spiegel) Mingle, his brother Harold Lloyd Spiegel, his grandchildren Jerry Wayne Spiegel II, Richard Lee Spiegel, Marie Louise (Spiegel) McLaurin, Ashely Ann (Spiegel) Friend, Amanda Leah Spiegel, Tyann Faye (Cervenka) Urich, and great grandchildren Jerry Wayne Spiegel III, Valerie Ann Spiegel, Kyra Marie Spiegel, Maeve Elizabeth Spiegel, Ryan Wayne Spiegel, Shannon Marie Spiegel, Carter Hudson Urich, and Tenley Reese Urich, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Rocky Faldyn, George Gonzales, Burton Kelso, Kenneth Kelso, Marvin Mikeska, Dwight Mutschler, Earnest Solis, Herbert Wittliff. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Wayne Spiegel and Harold Lloyd Spiegel, Jr.
