Laurie Sue Nichols, 61, of Edna, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Laurie was born on March 3, 1962 to Roderick Joseph Nichols and Betty Sue Nichols in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Katy High School, she attended Business College and began working at Katy ISD as a financial clerk in the maintenance and operations department. She remained there for 35 years until her retirement in 2017. She then moved to Victoria, TX to be closer to her family.
Laurie’s greatest joys came from spending time with her three nieces and later her 2 great nieces and nephew. Although she never had children of her own, she considered them to be her children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to Laurie. Laurie was also a devoted cat mom to her beloved fur babies. Her love for cats was evident to anyone who knew and loved her. Laurie also enjoyed traveling, cruises, and visiting casinos with her best friend, Flora Duncan. Flora’s husband Al would loan Flora to Laurie for their many casino trips and cruises. Laurie recently moved to Edna, TX, and thoroughly enjoyed living a few miles from all her family.
Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Roderick Joseph Nichols and mother, Betty Sue Nichols. She is survived by her sister Lisa Gabrysch (Kent) of Edna; nieces Stephanie Laskowski (Luke), Courtney Novella (Jonathan), and Morgan Musser (Rhett); great nieces and nephew, Ryleigh Novella, Madisyn Laskowski, and Lane Laskowski.
Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, January 8, 2024 from 1:00-1:30 PM at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in La Salle. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 2:oo pm with Father Johnson residing. Burial will immediately follow at St Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery.
