Jerry Lockard Patton passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the age of 97 at the Friendswood Health Care Center in Friendswood, Texas. Jerry was born in Ratcliff, Texas on May 27, 1917 to Jerry Sam Patton and Adeline Lockard Patton. He settled in Victoria, Texas when he served at Foster Field during World War II. Jerry was a resource to the Victoria Historical Society, as he was the only survivor who was present at the opening and closing of Foster Field during World War II. He was an accomplished equestrian in the Calvary and served honorably in the Army Air Core. His tenure in the military was one of his proudest and most treasured memories. Jerry worked with the Burns Security Agency at the Union Carbide Plant for twenty-five years.
Fishing was a major focus in Jerry’s retiring years. He would travel with his buddies to their favorite fishing spots with regularity. He and Frances also enjoyed traveling in their trailer throughout the Southwest and along the coast of California.
Jerry L. Patton was truly one of the honorable Americans from the Greatest Generation because he lived a life of accountability, integrity, and respect.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Frances Angela Patton and his two children, Dennis R. Patton of Friendswood, Texas and Judith Patton Crane of Irvine, California. Jerry and Frances are the wonderful grandparents of Melissa McDaniel, Zachary Patton, James Tate Patton, Kristin Farnsworth and Jill Riske. Their beautiful great grandchildren include: Piper Adams, Ava Adams, Adelaide Adams, Yardley McDaniel, Alexis Gabbard, Haley Patton, Paige Patton, Charles Farnsworth, Molly Farnsworth, and Scarlett Riske.
