Ella Jane “Janie” Schroller Metting, 93, of Victoria, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Janie was born in Pawnee, Texas to Frank and Annie Haferkamp Schroller on February 5, 1931. She married Dalton “DR” Metting on January 13, 1957 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy, Texas. Janie worked as a Secretary for the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce for many years and was a member of First English Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Frank and Annie Haferkamp Schroller, Janie is preceded in death by brother; Leo Schroller, Sr., sisters; Olivia Ellis, Annie Johnson, Mary Mae Page, Lorene Polozeck, Emma Schroller, Leona Smith, and Willis Mueller.
Janie is survived by her loving husband, Dalton; son, Keith Metting and wife, Jena, daughter; Jeri Alvarez and husband, Sammy, grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Metting, Samantha Jordan Alvarez, and Danielle Alvarez Garcia and husband Jacob, step-grandchildren, Kira Hedding and Spencer Hedding, and great-granddaughter; Elaine Brooke Garcia.
Janie cherished spending time with her grandchildren, always proud to be their biggest supporter. She enjoyed baking fresh treats and preparing delicious homemade meals in the kitchen. She was best known for her apple pie and chicken salad. Sewing and gardening were among her favorite pastimes. Beyond her family, she was a passionate Texas Longhorns fan—Hook ’em!
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 9:30-11, followed by Funeral Service at 11, all at First English Lutheran Church. Interment will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 3 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Yorktown. Rev. Chip Reynolds officiating.
Honoring her by serving as Pallbearers will be Sammy Alvarez, Dr. John Frels, John Koopmann, Scott Wolf, Justo Bryand, Jr., Paul Bryand, and Gerald Karnei.
