Hazel was born in Paint Rock, TX on November 3, 1925. She graduated from high school in Lampasas, TX and spent most of her life in Victoria, TX.
Hazel was married to Morris Shepherd Houston on August 30,1944; they were married for 60 years.
Hazel was the first woman hired by the Victoria Police Department in 1960 where she was the department’s original records keeper. She was recently celebrated by the police department for her service to the city. She also worked as a secretary at O’Connor Elementary. Through the years, Hazel enjoyed traveling and spending time in Colorado and the Hill Country, where she and Morris hosted countless get togethers for family and friends. Her priority and greatest joy was always her time with family.
Hazel is survived by her brother Perry Don (PD) Hoskins and his wife Glenna of Glen Rose, and sister Saundra Engram and her husband Bobby of Bay City. Hazel’s children and their spouses are Irma Jean and F.C. (Corky) Henson of Mountain Home, Robert (Bob) and Jennifer Houston of Victoria, and Janice and Art Plowman of Katy. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Morris and her grandson Jarrell Henson.
The family will have a private remembrance and celebration of Hazel’s life. They also wish to profoundly thank Hospice of South Texas and Vitality Court for their love, care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of South Texas.
