Dolores Lucille Holly, age 68, unexpectedly passed away the early morning of December 3, 2021. Dolores was born in Hallettsville, Texas on January 6th, 1953 to Alois and Lucille Grahmann. Dolores was the third born out of Alois and Lucille’s 13 children.
As a child and young lady, Dolores grew up on the family’s farm located in Hallettsville. Dolores told many stories to her children of her life on the family’s farm; picking cotton, working the pigs and cattle, on top of tending to the garden and helping raise the younger siblings. Her children can remember themselves on the farm in later years, where they learned from mom, the aunts and the uncles the daily routines and laborious chores that were needed to maintain the farm. There was nothing like a fresh glass of warm cow’s milk sitting on the dining room table.
Dolores graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1971 as the class Valedictorian. As a young woman, Dolores meet Bobby L. Holly and he ended his hot rod racing and dance hall nights to happily marry Dolores on October 30, 1971. Dolores and Bobby made several moves until they finally settled in Victoria, Texas and raised three sons, Doyle, Jeff and Scott. Dolores obtained her Vocational Nursing License and worked with hospitals and private clinics which gave her and Bobby the opportunity to travel to multiple countries and states.
Dolores and Bobby shared their love for their boys so deeply, it was hard to separate the five of them. Between the numerous hunting trips to the hill country, the family ranch in Langtry, fishing on the rivers, or trips to Hallettsville to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, Dolores always had her boys with her to watch over.
In the growing years, Doyle, Jeff and Scott started their families. It wasn’t any surprise that Dolores would treat her grandchildren as she did her own boys. You could not separate mom from her grandchildren. Mom traveled endlessly to see her grandkids. Whether it be a birthday party, swimming pool day, grandson baseball or football games, granddaughter volleyball or dance, she would arrive early and be the last to leave. Her boisterous laugh, sense of humor and extremely bright mind will be a missing piece at all family events.
While Dolores’s enjoyments in life could not be outweighed by her grandchildren, Dolores also loved the Christmas Holidays. She would leave no space untouched without a decorative ribbon, wreath, or poinsettia. She also loved vegetable gardening at their home. There was nothing like going out to the garden when mom and dad freshly plowed it up and planted their seeds. After waiting a few months until harvest you couldn’t keep the boys away from pulling fresh carrots or corn. Dolores also had a great passion for cooking. Her homemade tamales, thanksgiving dressing, and stews will be deeply missed.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, Alois and Lucille Grahmann; her husband, Bobby L. Holly and her infant children, Collette Holly and Bruce Holly. She is survived by her three sons, Doyle B. Holly and wife Kristy; Jeff E. Holly and wife Amy; Scott C. Holly and wife Ellie; six grandchildren, Dawson and Karson Holly, Brady, Brooke and Blair Holly, and Rollins Holly; sisters, Laura Ruth, Rita, Joan, Sharon, Alice, Laurie; brothers, Arthur, Elroyce, Anthony, Melvin, Stanley, and Alois; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Victoria, Texas. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 9, 2021, with a Rosary beginning at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
