David James Kouba, 86, of Victoria, passed away on July 10, 2024. David was born February 1, 1938, in a farmhouse on the north side of Shiner, Texas to Adolph and Lydia Ullmann Kouba. He was the first of four boys and was baptized in SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church three days later. At an early age, the family moved to a small farming community known as Henkhause. David attended St. Joseph Catholic Elementary and later graduated from Moulton High School.
After graduating from high school, David joined the United States Air Force and served for four years. He attended Lowry AFB, studying aircraft radar and gun sight control on the F84, F86, and F100 Fighter Jet Aircraft. Most of that time was at Luke Air Force Base outside of Glendale, AZ. He was honorably discharged and moved to Victoria where he was employed by DuPont. He worked in maintenance, production, and computer training. He retired after 38 years of service and he became active in the Boy Scouts, Knight of Columbus, and other church and civic activities.
David married Rosie Filla, wife of 61 years. Together they were blessed with three children, Greg Kouba, and Karen Consley, and husband, Michael and Douglas Kouba, and wife, Cyndi. David is also survived by his grandchildren, Madelyne Consley, Chris, Kaylin, and Brook Kouba; his brothers, Charles Kouba and Anthony “Tony” Kouba; and his wife, Addie Chapa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Patrick, and sister-in-law, Anne Kouba.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 4-6 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 6 PM.
The funeral Mass will be Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers are Chris Kouba, Coy Kouba, Keith Kouba, Mark Kouba, Harold Jurica, and Aarón Lara.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the OLV Boy Scout Troop 364 and the OLV TV Mass fund or OLV Cathedral.
