Connie G. Gipson Murray

Connie G. Murray of Victoria, 67, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, in a San Antonio Hospice. She was born January 31, 1944, in Edna, Jackson County, Texas, to Lessie and the late Dovie Gipson. Ms Murray was employed with Victoria independent school district for 28 years. She attended G.W. Carver and graduated from there in 1962.

She attended Victoria college and Texas A&I University. She was associated with Meals on Wheels and Victoria’s Community action commission for many years, on the Victoria College Foundation Board of Directors, a former leader of the youth department and Pastor’s aide committee at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

Ms. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, the late Reuben J Murray. She is survived by her three children; daughter, Yolanda Murray of Houston, sons Royce (Rusty) and his wife, Nisia, of Atlanta, Georgia, Rodney and his wife, Autumn, of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Drake, Regan, Ava and Asa of Atlanta, Georgia; Mother, Lessie Gipson of Edna; sisters, Elaine Wallace of Houston, Janice Bibbs of San Antonio; brother, Warren Gipson of Dallas.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, 9am to 8pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Northside Baptist Church, 4100 N. Laurent with Pastor Fred Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Keith Mumphord, Dwayne Bennett, Lionel Simmons, James Pitts, Ben Leonard and Roy Hill.

Honorary pallbearers: Jack Rollins, Jesse Bibbs Jr., Jesse Bibbs III, Justyn Wallace, Wren Gipson, Buddy Wyatt and Joe Wallace Jr.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, The American Cancer Society or The Reuben J. Murray Scholarship Fund (Victoria College).
