The son of Jack and Alice Hebden, Dad was born in Guelph Ontario. He was the older brother and “protector” to his younger sister Jo-Ann. They both cherished each other, and although living at opposite ends of the country, they visited as often as possible, and enjoyed many conversations filled with humour, laughter and love.
Dad’s fondest memories as a teenager were his times spent at camp Nagawa. Dad was an avid boxer, a lifeguard and a camp counsellor for many years. Dad shared endless stories of the shenanigans he was involved with during his youth, including some of which are, multiple joyrides with his parents' car at the ripe age of 13, playing hooky from school on a regular basis, and using his boxing skills on any boy that got too close to his little sister.
Our Mom and Dad moved out west with their family in 1970, settling in Victoria. We grew up in Metchosin, on a little farm we named Ter-Anne Acres. Dad’s biggest pride and joy were us girls. Everyone that knew our Dad, knew how much he loved his girls.
Dad was an excellent cook, a talent that was clearly handed down to next of kin. A few of his interests included the love of music, especially Elvis, Roy Orbison and the Everly brothers. He was also a talented singer. We have fond memories of singing Elvis songs while driving around in the car.
Dad’s passions were hunting, fishing and absolutely anything outdoors enjoying nature. Our family holidays consisted of spending many weekends camping at Cowichan Lake, often with the Keegan family. Our family of five, along with our black lab Chica, called our 16-foot Scamper trailer home for these weekends. The days were spent trolling the lake fishing in our little 9 foot aluminum boat, playing cards, and singing songs around the campfire. One of our favourite campfire songs was, down by the Bay, where the watermelons grow, back to my home I dare not go, for if I do, my mother would say… Have you ever seen Terry eating a Cherry, down by the Bay, this would keep going until everyone around the fire had their name included in the song.
Our Dad loved and cherished his annual fishing trips to Port Renfrew, with his brother in law Jack Poot. Dad and Uncle Jack rivaled for the title of Kingfisher. They even got shirts made to claim their fame.
We will remember our Dad for his quick wit, and great sense of humour, but most of all for never doubting how much he loved us.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his pride and joys, daughter; Charlene (grandson Colton); daughter; Debbie (Rod) grandkids; Dallas (Molly), Cassidy (Noah), Brodie (Kiera) and Dawson; daughter; Jackie (Kris) grandkids; Olivia, and Jaxon (Fernanda). Sister Jo-Ann (Larry); niece; Krista (Matt), Declan and Olivia, nephew; Kevin (Megan), Evie, and Jack. Lifelong friend & “brother” Ron Keegan (Helen), Rodney (Anna), Liam, Jarod, God-daughter Rhonda (Jason) Keegan, Taya, Carter.
There will be a celebration of life in the coming months. Please check First Memorial website for details on Terry’s celebration of life.
