Tegan was born in Victoria, and from a young age was challenged by a life long affliction from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She first attended Victoria West Elementary, but often needing braces or crutches made mainstream school difficult. She then attended St. Andrews and loved school once again. She applied and was accepted to the Esquimalt High Challenge Program for gifted students, and finally graduated from the Visual Arts Program at Spectrum High School.
Tegan loved the stage, then found a niche in choral singing. She sang with the Camosun Choristers, Linden Singers and Vox Humana often taking solo pieces. She loved Celtic music and for many years was a regular with her flute at the jam sessions held at the Bent Mast in James Bay. Tegan excelled at photography both behind the camera and as a model. She was also skilled in chainmail jewelry making and was recently developing a talent at painting.
During the past few years Tegan was met with other life-threatening medical conditions that often put her in hospital for weeks at a time, but each time she persevered.
She leaves behind her parents, Tom and Linda Bown, plus three very special people: Adam Kerr, Tristan Carl and Travis Leask, as well as their families plus aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her Grandparents Thomas Henry and Betty Jane Bown and Donald Robert and Nellie Margaret Corbett. Many thanks to Dr. David Attwell for his decades of care for Tegan.
A small private celebration of life for those closest to her will be held at a future date.
Donations can be made in Tegan’s name to the Canadian Arthritis Society, if you would like.
