Qualified as Chartered Physiotherapist, London, England December 1954.
Following National Service with the Royal Army Medical Corps 1955-1957, he served with Her Majesty’s Crown Agents for the Colonies in British Guinea 1957-1960, returning to live in England until 1964.
He immigrated to Canada in April 1964, helping to establish the Community Clinic in Prince Albert Sask.
Stephen’s fiancée Heidi, joined him from Austria and they were married in Prince Albert in July 1964.
He moved to the Victoria Union Hospital in the same city in Dec. 1965-1971 after a brief absence in Jersey, Channel Islands, Stephen and his family returned to Prince Albert in Sept. 1972. He worked in the Community Clinic and established a physiotherapy service for Prince Albert Penitentiary. He was elected to Prince Albert City Council in 1975, serving until 1983 when the family moved to Victoria B.C.
In Aug 1983, assisted by his wife Heidi, Stephen established “James Bay Physiotherapy”, selling the practice in Feb, 1991. He did “locums” at Victoria-area clinics until 1999, latterly providing sessional service at William Head Institution, and following his hobbies of fishing and collecting of “trench” art. His evening pleasure included the company of friends, a sardine sandwich and a “pint”.
An only child, Stephen learned through Heidi his wife for 58 years a priceless blessing- family. He is survived by Heidi, sons; Clifford and Richard, (Donna), Grandchildren; Jessica, Nicole and Russell, cousins in England, in-laws in Austria. Also, feline family-member “Lorenzo”. Friends in numbers. Mentors several. Particularly, “Sankait, a prince among men”.
