Born to Mary Mabel & Richard Prette she grew up in Ottawa with 8 siblings. Mom met my father Ray during the turbulent times of WW11 at a dance in Ottawa. That night he told her he wanted to marry her. They had a whirlwind romance and married within one month. Soon after our Father was sent to Europe for active service. Throughout the War Mom worked for the Gov't in Ottawa.
Our vivacious Matriarch had a beautiful singing voice and expressive laughing eyes of shining light & joy. She often said her children were her 'Miracle' and we always felt an abundance of unconditional LOVE. Her friends said 'Shirley had a generous heart of gold’. Always in a great mood her kindness & sweet nature will be remembered by many.
After the war, Dad joined RCAF we were posted across Canada & in England. Our parents represented Canada in a NATO celebration hosted by the Queen. At age 50 our mother worked for External Affairs in Ottawa until retiring to Victoria.
Mom's retirement revolved around helping her family, Church family, creating embroidery, monarchist league, traveling especially cruising. Genealogy was a passion of exploring her roots & led her to taking the grand tour of Ireland.
Heartfelt gratitude to our sister Margaret Rose for many years of care and devotion to our parents' and family.
We acknowledge the lifelong support of the Anglican Church. Many thanks to Rev. John Steele for providing a traditional Anglican service to fulfil our Mothers wishes.
Family deeply appreciates the love and compassionate care at Kiwanis Pavilion.
OUR MOTHER WAS OUR MIRACLE. FOREVER LOVED.
A celebration of life at St. Dunstan Anglican Church.
