Raymond John Shorten of Victoria, BC went home to be with his Lord on December 18, 2016 the age of 66 years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Susan (nee Rogers) and daughters Kyla Butler (Sam) and Sara Shorten, his grandchildren Ava, Jude, Eli and Helena, his father Charles (Elizabeth) brothers David (Kathleen) and Robert (Beverly).
Ray was predeceased by his brother Ronald and mother Winifred. Ray was born at Chissamba Hospital in central Angola on September 20, 1950 and spent his childhood at Monte Esperance Mission and was a graduate of Sakeji School in Zambia. He earned his BA in English and Psychology at the University of Western Ontario and his RN at Nightingale School of Nursing in Toronto.
He worked in Psychiatry at the Royal Jubilee Hospital from 1977 until his retirement in 2014. He was an avid reader and an accomplished musician/singer on piano and guitar.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held in Ray’s honor on January 5, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
