Born in Loreburn, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Vaughan. Predeceased by her husband, Harry in 2000, Skip is lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Judy) and Dawn (Stirling), grandchildren Amanda, Rowan, Evan, Andrew and Lauren and three great-grandchildren.
Skip grew up in Canwood, Saskatchewan, trained as a nurse in Saskatoon General Hospital and served as an army nursing sister during the war where she met Harry. They married in 1944 and subsequently travelled extensively with the army, moving 14 times in Canada, the UK, and Germany before settling in Ontario in the 1970’s and finally retiring to BC in 1994.
Skip took great pride in her family, often travelling to visit her daughter’s family in Australia, most recently in 2012 at the age of 93 for her grandson’s wedding. She enjoyed gardening, beachcombing, a good glass of wine and coaching the Blue Jays from her armchair. Her fiercely determined and independent spirit was admired by all who knew her. She is now at rest with her beloved Harry.
The family would like to thank Dr. Luckhurst and the compassionate staff at the Berwick House on Shelbourne St. for their loving care of Skip during the past year. She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
