Beloved Mother, Aunt, Sister, and Grandmother, Janet Zolika Khan passed away on the morning of March 5th, 2020 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. She was 68 years old. Born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1951, she immigrated to Calgary Alberta with the rest of her family at the age of 16. After living in Calgary for a couple of years she met and married Vaclav Soupal and together they moved to Fort McMurray Alberta and later to Red Deer Alberta.
Janet is survived by their two children, Michelle Soupal and her fiancée Ty, Daniel Soupal and his wife Marta. Later in life as a single Mother she had her third child Tryce Blion.
She is also survived by five siblings; Judy and Nick Nation, Shirah, Fareeda, Rhoda, and Imtiaz, and by four grandchildren; Rashaad Provo, Aliyah Gauthier, Sophia Soupal, and Adele Soupal. Janet is predeceased by her beloved parents Yusouff and Sonwa Khan whom she will be joining in the Lord’s Kingdom up in Heaven.
She was a dutiful daughter and loving Aunt to Mojdeh, Ashley, Shirah and Sean, and Valerie. She was also a dedicated volunteer at many of the festivals in Victoria such as the Folkfest, Dragonboat Races, and especially the Afro-Caribbean Festival where her amazing gift of cooking Trinidadian food was enjoyed by everyone who was lucky enough to get a taste before she sold out. She also served food to the homeless at the soup kitchen. She was instantly liked by anyone who met her and dearly loved by anyone who knew her.
Janet was truly a Caribbean queen. She had a keen sense of style that was truly memorable. She always had her hair done, make up on, and nails done. Even if she was just going to out to get groceries. She was so full of love, always nurturing plants and loved flowers, feeding the birds everywhere she went. She had a keen love for animals and always believed in being good to all people, and to all of God’s creatures. She gave everyone the gift of her delicious cooking wherever she went. If you were at her house, she would feed you, whether you were hungry or not!! She will always live inside our hearts.......until we meet again.
The family would like to welcome anyone who would like to pay their respects and say good bye to this amazing woman to come to First Memorial at 1155 Fort Street this Saturday at 2:00pm.
