She was an inspiration to many. She and Dad enjoyed each other and loved their family.
Anne and Bob Hughes were pioneers and settled in the first house in the instant town of Mackenzie in the early 1960’s - before there was electricity or plumbing. While raising two of their children they had several businesses with the final one being a grocery store, a Radio Shack, fishing and hunting gear and a toy store. The variety in the store showed their interest in the community and what they enjoyed in life. Many weekends were spent camping and snowmobiling as a family.
Anne and Bob’s retirement years were a beautiful culmination of their adventurous spirit and love for a life of independence. They lived off-grid on Ruxton Island for about 20 years where they enjoyed the challenge of providing for themselves while living on the sea. They shared summers with their grandchildren and when not on Ruxton Island they were showing the grandchildren around BC and Haida Gwaii. In the winters they would travel south to Mexico and enjoy boondocking on remote beaches with their niece and nephew. As they aged they spent many years at Fountain of Youth south of Palm Springs where many friends were made.
