Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Inge Lisbeth Sorensen died on May 1, 2022 in Victoria, BC, at the age of 80 years. Oh, how she will be missed by her family, friends, and everybody lucky enough to have met her! Inge was born on April 1, 1942 in Vejgaard, Aalborg, Denmark to Edith Ostenkaer and Anker Jensen. She was a big sister (Kirsten and Flemming), sister-in-law, and auntie.
In 1961, she married the love of her life, Heine, and the two of them shared a life full of bold and unconditional love until his passing in 2007. With their firstborn, Dorthe (Craig), Inge and Heine adventurously left Denmark and moved to Sherbrooke, Québec, continuing to create something truly special: a family that is built upon a strong foundation of love. There, they added to their family Suzanne (David) and the twins, Kirsten Vania (Kurt) and Heine John (Grace). She is Bedste to Morgen (Ben), Maxwell (Serena), Oscar, Sofia (Jordan), Angela “Lala”, Micah, Dune, Haven, and Cove. Recently, she became Oldemor to Millie, Jack, Darius, and Elsie. Beyond these names, Inge was a motherly figure to many more who she loved as her own, showing us that a heart can expand to fit more souls.
Inge was a ray of sun who shone light on all of those around her in every moment, from sharing a laugh during long talks to kicking butt in Canasta. In all that she said and did, she nurtured a caring environment in which everybody in the family was accepted and felt her guidance, comfort, joy, and happiness. No matter what, Inge could always be counted on for a warm hug and a hot cup of coffee. She taught us to: make a short story long, hold on to a lamppost when it’s windy, stand up for what you believe in, boogie board, put your heart into everything you do, joust and rib playfully, and to let people know when you’re proud of them.
From Denmark, to Sherbrooke, to Massawippi, and to Victoria, Inge (and Heine) made ‘here’ a better place to be. She always lived up to her salutations of “Love you more!” Æret være Inges minde. We love you more!
A Celebration of Life will happen later this year. In lieu of sending flowers, please plant a flower in your garden and/or donate to the Red Cross.
