October 18, 1925 – January 23, 2015
With great sadness, the family of Howard Kevin Britt announces his passing at The Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria, B.C.
Howard was born and raised in Montreal. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. While stationed in Whitehorse, NWT, he met and married Margaret Ricalton in 1947. Three children were born in the following years as Howard and Margaret were posted to military bases around the country. Over the years they formed many long-lasting friendships. After a career that spanned twenty-three years Howard retired with the rank of Captain.
In 1965 Howard accepted the position of Director, Printing Services with the federal government’s National Printing Bureau in Hull, Quebec. In 1979 Howard and Margaret moved to Victoria, B.C. where Howard became Director of the Queen’s Printer with the provincial government. In 1988 he retired from public service.
Retirement gave Howard and Margaret the opportunity to pursue their interests. A sports enthusiast and avid outdoorsman, Howard enjoyed curling and lawn bowling. Gardening and winemaking were among his other passions. His dogs held a special place in his heart and were his constant companions.
Howard’s strong drive, work ethic, and appetite for learning were foundational to his success. He was a loving and dedicated family man. His kindness, sense of humour and positive attitude will long be remembered.
Howard leaves Margaret, his wife of sixty-seven years, son Kevin, daughters Lynn (Richard) and Deborah (Richard); grandsons Douglas (Rachal), Andrew (Miranda), Allan (Heather), Brian (Candace) and Robert; great-grandchildren Abigail, Rylan, Emma and Lillia.
Howard’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at The Lodge at Broadmead for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Howard.
There will be a memorial service at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Lodge at Broadmead or to the Alzheimer Society.
