Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1942 and passed away in Victoria, BC on 18th December, 2022, Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret, his children Linda and Steven, grandson Declan, his sister Irene (Bob) Currie (Dawson Creek) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Brian and sister, Joan. Born in Glasgow to Peter and Agnes (Nancy) Hay, Gordon attended engineering college, served in the Royal Marine reserves and sailed in the Merchant Navy. While sailing around the world with the Merchant Navy, he fell in love with Vancouver Island. When he returned to Scotland, he convinced Margaret that they should make their home in Canada. They were married in 1965, and following the birth of their daughter in 1966, they immigrated to Canada. They settled in Victoria, BC where their son was born in 1970. Gordon went to work on the towboats, sailing with Seaspan for 41 years as a chief engineer. Gordon loved golfing, crosswords, growing tomatoes, family vacations and golf trips with his brother-in-law, Thomas and his brother, Brian. He had a lifelong love of music and he played the guitar, accompanying friends and family in sing-alongs at gatherings. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #91), of which he was a proud member since 1968. A memorial service for Gordon will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 27th, 2023 at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Dr, Victoria, BC.
